10 Alternative images of Barcelona

1. Would you like to live here? Casa Batlló

With hardly a straight line in sight, Casa Batlló, designed by Anton Gaudí, is a very famous example of what happens when you let your imagination as well as architectural brilliance run away with you. Whether you would want to live in it or not, is another issue.

2. How the other half live – a little boat in Barcelona harbour

Don’t mind if I do. Not in a million years will most of us have the opportunity to step on a boat like this, let alone own one. But a little window shopping never did anyone any harm and who knows…

3. Would you use this cash machine?

Yes, it was genuinely spotted in a back street of Barcelona. It has to be the worst cash machine in the world. Unless you know differently.

4. The Sagrada Família – still unfinished

It’s not to everyone’s liking but this other example of Anton Gaudí design is still a focal point for tourists and some very long queues.

5. Now, I really have seen it all – a dog with sunglasses

Now whether they were designer sunglasses or from a looky looky man, we’ll never know.

6. The world at your feet

One thing Barcelona is definitely good at (other than emptying your purse) is making you feel that you really are on top of the world. There are several points where you can rise above the rest and contemplate the Barcelona skyline.

7. Who needs Mercadona with a vending machine like this?

Perhaps one day, this is how we’ll do our shopping. In the meantime, stay well clear if you have young children or grand children, you might just get to miss all the other sites in Barcelona.

8. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

It’s not to everyone’s taste or understanding. Located in the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, this mural by Joan Miró stimulated plenty of discussion. What do you see when you look at it? Genius or monstrosity?

9. Hot chocolatemeanshot chocolate

Yes, if you ask for chocolate caliente (hot chocolate) then that is exactly what you’re likely to get. Chocoholics beware!

10. A weird, wonderful and expensive experience

Whatever your impressions of Barcelona, you’re bound to leave with memories that you’ll never forget.
