‘Las Fuentes’ means fountains in English and those you find close to the town of Calloso d’En Sarría are a particularly fine example. It’s made up of a number of small springs which converge to form a waterfall and some small lagoons. The spring waters are cool and refreshing and a bonus is that you are allowed to bathe in them.
To visit the fountains you should make towards Altea on the N332 coast road and follow the signposts from Calloso. You won’t be disappointed by the scenery on the way there with mountains cloaked in orange and nispero groves. Nisperos are small peach-coloured fruits which originated in China and Japan. This area produces more than half of the total crop for Spain.
Although the area is ideal for relaxation, there is also a restaurant there and barbecue and picnic facilities. So you needn’t go hungry after your dip.
