Spain Explained

The blanket trip

Last updated on September 13th, 2019 at 09:11 am.

The subject of blanket trips in Spain seems to attract very different opinions. For some people these ‘free’ trips with a hidden agenda are something to be avoided. For others they are a good way of spending a day at someone else’s expense.

In case you weren’t aware, a blanket trip in Spain is usually a coach ride somewhere that combines looking round a town or city with a visit to some kind of retail outlet. Traditionally the visit would include a stop at a woollen bedding outlet, hence the term ‘blanket trip’. In more recent times these trips have touted other types of merchandise.

Whether you like them or not very much depends upon the time you have to spare, your expectations and the provider themselves. There are some horror stories of unwilling customers being locked in dodgy warehouses and forced to listen to torrents of hard sell. Then again we have heard of very good value trips which have achieved the right balance between selling the product and seeing the sites.

Years ago,! and a friend went Benidorm. We went on a Blanket trip and really enjoyed the talk about the wool blankets. I bought a mattress, 2 mattress covers and a wool blanket and 2 pillow covers. I have had these items for many years and not one of them has been faulty.
