Spain Explained

Help Vega Baja

Last updated on May 18th, 2020 at 04:39 pm.

Help Vega Baja is a not-for-profit association, helping people out in the local community. In our question and answer session they explain what they do, how they might help you and how you could help them too.

Who are you?

HELP Vega Baja was established more than 30 years ago and during that period has helped people in time of need, regardless of age, gender, nationality, or religion.

New Call-to-action

Our association provides advice and support to those living permanently in Spain, as well as anyone visiting on holiday. Its aim is to assist in practical ways, particularly at times of crisis, emergency and when police, or medical services are involved.

In addition, our volunteers also raise funds to support other like-minded charities who contribute to the well-being and support of the local community.

Where are you?

HELP volunteers are located at their offices in San Miguel, Torrevieja, and the Help Desk in La Marina. They deal with many varied requests throughout the year, both by phone, or when somebody visits.

How do you help?

It is comforting to know that there is someone at the end of the phone who will support you through an emergency situation. HELP Vega Baja offers a 24 hour, 365 days a year Emergency Help- Line on 966 723 733.

This service is available to anyone who finds themselves requiring advice and guidance on such things as how to obtain assistance with medical emergencies, sudden bereavement, or matters requiring the Guardia or Police.

Being admitted to hospital in a foreign country and not understanding the language can be very daunting. A hospital visiting team attends the Vega Baja Hospital regularly and a volunteer is also available to visit patients at Torrevieja Hospital, upon request.

Members of HELP Vega Baja can also benefit from the HELP Care Scheme which has been developed in conjunction with a leading provider of nursing services on the Costa Blanca. The scheme provides nursing and palliative care for members recently discharged from hospital or wishing to live their final days in their own home.

An experienced welfare officer is also available to advise on living with infirmity, or disability whether at home or in an alternative care facility.

What other services do you provide?

We have a vast library of information sheets available, covering many issues relating to living in Spain, the majority of which are available on the HELP website

The social side of the association includes a weekly friendship centre for those who might be housebound or in need of company. There is a monthly lunch group where members and their friends can enjoy a menu del día on the first Tuesday of every month.

For more information about either of these social activities, please contact the San Miguel Office.

How can people help you?

The continuation of our work is only possible with the support of a team of dedicated volunteers, members, and of course those people who support them at fundraising events throughout the year.

It is very easy to become a member of HELP Vega Baja and our membership fees remain very affordable; starting at just 7€ for a single membership or 12€ for a couple, per annum.

If you would like to find out more about any of the services provided, becoming a member, or joining the team of volunteers, please contact the San Miguel Office between 10:00 am and 1:30 pm, Monday to Friday on 966 723 733 or email office@helpvegabaja.com
